Léon is a brasserie boiled down to its basics, specialising in steak-frites (steak partnered with fries) in the tradition of Parisian and Genevan institution L'Entrecôte. It's a fresh approach to what a French restaurant can be in KL, focusing on a single dish done delightfully, helmed by the Gallic and Swiss-trained team that formerly ran Cocott', a more elaborate European eatery, in this same location. Léon is a nod to its co-founders' heritage - it's the name of manager Rui-Yang Monico's grandfather, while chef  Geoffroi Herin, who was raised in the somewhat similarly pronounced Lyon, remains the kitchen's ringleader . This friendly new dessert den promises a plethora of house-made ice cream, served parfait-style, with waffles or on their own. Since we visited on a Monday, it seemed most appropriate to order the Mondae Blue, bringing a splash of cheerful colour to the start of our week with vanilla ice cream layered with fresh strawberries, almond crumbles, caramelised macadamia nuts, digestive biscuits and strawberry sauce (RM18). There's also a T.G.I. Fridae that features chocolate ice cream with bananas. The waffle selection is extensive; for a triple dose of chocolate, have the chocolate waffle with 62 percent dark chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramelised bananas and digestive biscuits, a hefty waffle that two persons can easily share (RM23). Peko Peko (Japanese for ‘famished’) combats cravings for Japanese fare with a full-fleshed spectrum of crowd favourites: Start with guilty-indulgence snacks of the playful deep-fried genre, including battered chicken skin with a savoury crunch (RM6) and soft-shell crab with onsen tamago for a runny-yolked dip (RM26), then move on to sushi to share, with highlights of ball-shaped temari topped with tuna, salmon, shrimp, surf clam and yellowtail (RM28) and maki with lightly torched salmon, ikura and mentaiko sauce (RM11), before scarfing down a big bowl of chirashi, blanketed in thick slices of seafood, the winning strategy in the battle against hunger (RM29). Nuts about Nutella? Try Big Tree Bakery's big three: The Nutella Brownie Pie, layered with Nutella mousse and Belgian dark chocolate ganache on a fudgy brownie base (RM13) and Nutella Red Velvet, topped with lashings of Nutella (RM13), rounded out with the Nutella equivalent of hot chocolate (RM12). Plenty of other sweet indulgences are available at this friendly cakes-and-cookies parlour, from Ferrero Rocher cakes to Burnt Cheesecakes.
