Highball, Bukit Damansara

Image
Highball's namesake long drink might not formally be on the menu in Bukit Damansara's latest bar, but feel free to order one, pairing Nikka From The Barrel with soda for an enjoyable nightcap. Another for the road? Try the Lychee Mint Sour, blending Bourbon with lychee syrup, lemon juice, fresh egg white and mint leaves. Highball 68M, Plaza Damansara, Jalan Medan Setia 1, Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. This post first appeared on eatdrinkkl.com

Pints & Putts, The Hub SS2

Image
This new restaurant tees off with fun fare like fried chicken wings coated in gochujang sauce (RM18) and rice bowls blanketed with egg and crispy pork lard (RM5). Heartier offerings like beef short ribs, grilled lobsters and beetroot pesto pasta were not yet available when we visited but should be by now. True to its name, the venue is also expected to launch a miniature golf course upstairs soon. Celebrate your eagle with Asian-inflected cocktails like the Green Fairway (RM30; gin, coconut milk, pandan syrup, fresh lime juice) and Satan's Sour (RM30; whiskey, bird's eye chillies, Thai syrup, fresh lime juice) or a glass of medium-bodied Wolf Blass Bilyara (RM19). Pints & Putts A-G-05, The Hub SS2, Jalan Harapan, Seksyen 19, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Open 3pm-12am; closed Mondays. Boba Cocktails: Young Masters, Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Image
Young Masters' boba cocktails promise playful pleasure; choose between the Teaggly Puff (milk tea with brown sugar pearls, distinctly laced with Malibu coconut-flavoured rum and Jameson whiskey) and the Milo Bobasaur (Milo Dinosaur and pearls with Baileys Irish cream) - better still, have both, since these beverages clock in at a fair RM20 a glass. An enjoyable way to start the evening, though less ice and more tapioca balls might make these worth returning for even after the novelty fades. Young Masters TTDI 100A, First Floor, Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Daily, 6pm-late. Potions, Tun H.S. Lee Road

Image
Dementors and Daiquiris? KL's latest cocktail parlour is partly inspired by spellbinding fantasy sagas like Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia, but its concoctions also tackle controversial real-life themes like euthanasia and recreational drug use (!), making it a bar that breaks boundaries but not enchantments. Even securing entry into Potions is a more complicated drama compared to most speakeasy-style spaces: Find the Chinatown back-alley door, climb the stairs within a small courtyard, then look for the old wardrobe - open it to penetrate this magical realm of mixology, with crumbling cabinets packed with books of sorcery, preserved insects and replicas of animal skulls. Springing straight out of the Goblet of Fire, Lord Voldemort's murderous snake Nagini strikes through Nagini's Venom (RM40). Potions describes this as a blood-replenishing elixir to counter the snake's potent poison - this supremely striking cocktail is prepared to evoke the look of the snak...
